How Long Should Appliances Last?

Our homes have appliances that make our lives significantly easier. We rely on them to wash our clothes, clean our dishes, refrigerate our food and more. But how long can these appliances last before they need to be replaced? This guide will let you know how long each machine usually lasts, what you can do to make them last longer and how you’ll know it’s time to get a new one.

On the other hand, water can take its toll on appliances such as dishwashers and washing machines. Water can cause mold and rust, which could potentially affect the longevity of your machines. In addition, the detergents can leave residue and cause further damage. In the case of dishwashers, food pieces can also get caught in the mechanisms, which could eventually cause your appliance to fail. Machines of this nature require more maintenance than appliances such as refrigerators and ovens. You need to make sure you clean any residue buildup or blockages you find because they can have significant repercussions on your appliances.

You also need to ensure that all of their functions are operating properly, especially the water drainage systems. If there’s any sign that your dishwasher or washing machine isn’t draining its water properly, then you should look into getting a new machine in the very near future. If left unchecked, a malfunctioning drainage system can potentially cause your machine to leak and cause water damage to your house. Because of the extra hazards that these appliances face, their lifespans are a little shorter than those of an oven or fridge. Washing machines usually last around 10 years, while dishwashers last around 9 years.

Although these numbers are good guidelines, it’s important to remember that every appliance is different. A more expensive machine will likely last longer than one bought at a cheaper price due to the quality of the appliance. Whether or not you take good care of the appliance also makes a significant difference. If you keep it clean and remove harmful substances from it as soon as you find them, you could potentially be adding years to your machine’s lifespan.

Keep these guidelines in mind, but be sure to use your own judgment as well. If your machine is still working well after the recommended number of years have passed, then you may be able to hold on to it a little longer. On the other hand, if your appliance begins to fail before the suggested time-frame has passed, you should definitely replace it sooner rather than later.

There are many factors that determine how long your appliances will last. However, no matter how expensive they are or how well you take care of them, they will eventually need to be replaced. Our home appliance plans ensure that if standard use has taken its toll on your appliances, you won’t be burdened with costly repairs or replacements on covered failures.

  1. That’s impressive that an oven can last over 10 years since it doesn’t have a lot of moving parts. I bet you could get the most out of those years by getting it serviced regularly. I just bought an older home so I’ll have to check its oven’s home and decide if I need to repair or replace.
